Pool builders in Australian cities
Open a city to find companies that build pools as their main work. Concrete pool builders and fibreglass pool builders get a city page each, since the two jobs are built quite differently. Plunge pools are a button inside the pool builders list. Pool shops, equipment retailers and sites that sell your enquiry on are left out.

What owners ask first
What approvals does a new pool need?
A new pool normally needs a building permit or development approval from your council or a private certifier before any digging starts, and planning rules can also cover setbacks, trees and drainage. Ask who lodges the application and get the approval number in writing. The barrier is part of the approval and normally has to be finished and signed off before the pool is filled.
How do I check a pool builder’s licence?
Get the licence number first, then look it up with your state regulator. In Queensland pool building sits under a QBCC licence, in New South Wales swimming pool building work needs a licence from NSW Fair Trading, and in Victoria builders are registered with the Victorian Building Authority. In South Australia and Western Australia, ask which licence covers your job and check it with Consumer and Business Services or Building and Energy.
Concrete or fibreglass: how do I decide?
A concrete pool is formed and finished on site, so shape and size are open and the build takes longer. A fibreglass pool arrives as a factory-made shell that is lifted into the hole, so you choose from the shapes the maker moulds, with less time on site. Both need access for machines. Ask each builder to show finished pools of the type you want and to put the warranty on the shell or finish in writing.
Is a plunge pool treated differently from a bigger pool?
Not by the law. Pool approval, barrier and registration rules apply to any pool or spa that can hold more than a shallow depth of water, and a plunge pool is well past that. It needs the same approvals and a compliant barrier as a larger pool. The Plunge pools button inside the pool builders list keeps the companies that show plunge pool jobs.
What should I ask about insurance?
Whether home warranty insurance applies to a pool, a fence or both depends on the state and the size of the job, so ask the builder what covers yours and ask to see the certificate before paying a deposit. Ask for a public liability certificate too. A licence number and an insurance certificate are two separate things, and you should see both.
